Contract review that used to take hours now takes minutes. 5,000 legal documents digitized and indexed in 48 hours. Lawyers focused on strategy, not paperwork.
"Contracts are the lifeblood of business, but the revision process remained trapped in the 19th century — until now."
Challenge: The Document Bottleneck
Our client, a leading law firm operating across South-East Europe, faced compounding pressures familiar to any modern legal practice: a document database misaligned with current matters, slow inter-department information flow, no fast risk analysis capability, and relentless pressure from clients demanding fixed-fee arrangements rather than hourly billing.
Senior lawyers were spending significant portions of their day on document review work that did not require their expertise — searching archives for precedents, manually extracting key clauses from lengthy contracts, formatting and cross-referencing. This left less time for the strategic and advisory work that clients actually value and that justifies premium pricing.
The archive itself was the largest problem: years of contracts, opinions, and correspondence existed in heterogeneous formats — scanned PDFs, Word documents, handwritten notes — with no unified search capability. Finding a specific precedent could take hours of manual searching.
Solution: Intelligent Legal Brain
Ishiros built a three-layer Intelligent Legal Brain — a hybrid-cloud system that digitizes and indexes the full document archive, automates contract analysis using LLMs, and enables semantic search across the entire knowledge base. All components were trained on Serbian and regional legal terminology.
1. Neural OCR & Classification
A custom Legal BERT model achieves 98%+ OCR accuracy on legal documents — including scanned, handwritten, and low-quality digitized pages. Each document is automatically classified by type (contract, opinion, correspondence, judgment) and tagged with key parties, dates, amounts, and subject matter. The full archive of 5,000+ documents was processed and indexed in under 48 hours.
2. Automated Contract Analysis
An LLM-based AI Review engine reads any uploaded contract and produces a structured analysis in minutes: extracted parties, key obligations, payment terms, deadlines, penalty clauses, and flagged risky provisions. What previously required 2–3 hours of a junior associate's time is now a 5-minute automated summary — with the lawyer reviewing, not producing, the analysis.
3. Smart Archive Search
Semantic Search, powered by custom legal embeddings, enables searching the entire archive by meaning rather than keywords. "Find all contracts where we represented a buyer in real estate transactions over 1M EUR with a penalty clause" — a search that would have taken days of manual review — now returns results in seconds.
Technical Foundation: Legal BERT + On-Premise Security
The system operates on a hybrid-cloud model: NLP models and the search index run on-premise within the firm's infrastructure (meeting strict client confidentiality requirements), while compute-intensive training and updates occur in a private cloud environment. No client document data leaves the firm's controlled environment.
Custom embeddings were trained specifically on Serbian, Croatian, and regional EU legal terminology — ensuring that the semantic search understands legal nuance, not just word frequency. This is what enables the system to correctly interpret "force majeure clause" and "vis maior odredba" as equivalent concepts.
"The implementation of the Ishiros solution not only accelerated our processes — it changed the way we think about law. Now we can focus on strategy and the client, while AI handles the paperwork. We became the firm we always wanted to be."
